Earlier in the year, I reviewed Kimchee and wasn’t blown away by the food. I didn’t understand the hype but because of the success of the restaurant the new chain is now venturing into the lunchtime crowd. ‘Kimchee to Go’ recently opened on The Strand and the other is due to open near Tottenham Court Road next week .
Disappointed by the restaurant and running out of lunchtime options I decided to see what ‘Kimchee to Go’ had to offer.
Honestly? I’m still not bowled over by Kimchee. As a lunch time option it works better than as a meal but the dish would have been very bland without adding the chilli paste to the dish which was actually surprisingly pleasant; slightly spicy with a sweet under-taste. Prices are fair and portion sizes are generous. I paid £6.45 for the chicken bibimbap but the choice of protein is limited with only chicken, beef or tofu to choose from.
London has become a very saturated place for lunchtime eateries with a Pret a Manger on every corner and I can see ‘Kimchee to Go’ becoming very popular as an alternative to sandwich spots dotted round the city. I would go again but my reasoning would only be because I’m bored with every thing else.
NB – Unfortunately because of its recent opening the store was very busy and meant queueing up outside. I also couldn’t take pictures of the different offerings from ‘Kimchee to Go’ but these can all be seen on their website.
