Burger Bear is a burger street food stand that seems to pop up every now and again in the Shoreditch area. Since the stand literally popped-up round the corner from where I work, I couldn’t say no to a little lunchtime treat.
This time, Burger Bear was situated in the middle of Leonard Street roundabout. We arrived at 12.30pm whilst the guys were still setting up.
The menu is short and concise and contains the usual burger contestants; cheeseburger, bacon burger, spicy burger and a special which in this case was the Bear Royale.
I opted for the spicy option; the Angry Bear burger as I do love my spicy food!
The beef was cooked exactly how I like it; medium rare and also had a nice char on the outside which gave it a smoky taste whilst still being surprisingly moist on the inside. The bun was a soft, buttery bun that was slightly grilled, mopping up all the delicious leftover beef juices. The Angry Bear burger was indeed that, spicy and not disappointing, in fact I’m not one to usually shy away from spicy food but the burger actually left my lips tingling! As a whole the burger worked and all the toppings melted into one pleasant delight.
Burger Bear exceeded my expectations and although we waited 30 minutes for the guys to set up, the burger was worth the wait. Afterall, this is what street food is all about, fresh, high quality ingredients that take a little longer to prepare. Now, I’ll just have to keep an eye out for where Burger Bear pops up next, as the Grizzly Bear burger with bacon jam sounds positively scrumptious.
