I’ve heard many things about Vapiano with its self-service, smart card technology whilst also supposedly being a decent place to eat.
With it’s casual dining experience, it offers the perfect experience for fuss-free, after work dining.
The idea is simple, you receive a smart card as soon as you enter and any food or drink items are swiped and paid for before leaving the restaurant. For large groups, it’s a comforting alternative to the usual, awkward splitting of the bill.
Vapiano serves pizza, pasta and salad. I opted to go for the pasta with the varying options of choosing what type of pasta.
Once ordered, your dish is freshly cooked in front of you.
In the process you can also add more or less of each ingredient and since I’m a chilli fiend, I asked for a little bit more chilli in my already chosen spicy pasta dish of Salsiccia Con Fichi (spicy Italian sausage with figs in a tomato sauce).
With a glass of white wine in hand, I dug in to the delectable pasta. With the generous amount of parmesan shavings and the intense heat from the chilli, the pasta was truly delicious and enough to satisfy on a cold winter’s day.
Vapiano is one-of-a-kind in London serving simple comfort food for the fast-paced lifestyle that many Londoners live. Matched with the affordable price tag of the dishes, it isn’t surprising that the restaurant seems to be consistently buzzing and it’s only a matter of time before other restaurants start to replicate Vapiano’s effortless success.
