Summer’s just around the corner and as soon as the sun is out, I’m craving lighter lunches such as sushi and salad.
This time I managed to stumble upon a great create-your-own London salad chain called Vital Ingredient. Salads have never been the same.
As soon as you walk into the eaterie, a mountain of decisions need to be made. If you’re an indecisive person like myself, you may find that you’re left making quick decisions, especially if there’s a queue.
First choice is from an array of bases including, spinach, mixed lettuce leaves, rice, quinoa, or the weekly special. Each base comes in both the regular or mini size, I personally found that the mini was sufficient enough.
Next is to pick what you want in your salad deciding on the 5 ingredients; 1 from the deli counter and 4 from the vegetable counter. The last step is choosing your dressing.
The best part? Instead of the dressing being squirted on top, the servers tossed the ingredients together, to create the perfect amount of dressing on your salad.
Vital ingredient also provides a choice of healthier desserts such as jelly and fruit as well as a limited choice of juices. With the new juicing trend, I would have assumed that this would have been the perfect place to jump on the vegetable juicing bandwagon.
I opted for a quinoa based salad with olives, sun-dried tomato, red onion, houmous, feta cheese with a chilli & ginger dressing.
It’s difficult to review Vital Ingredient as the salad choices are based on your personal taste and preference. It’s an ordeal, but creating your perfect salad makes eating what usually is a boring, bland lunch, more exciting than you would think.
